While I no longer work in the field of high speed mixed signal electronics, I still use the concepts presented in this book when designing circuits and circuit boards.Until one understands that high speed digital needs to be treated as analog, it really does appear to be black magic, hence the subtitle. Even after understanding the concepts, there is a certain amount of trial and error involved in debugging high speed circuitry to accommodate differences in board impedances, component variations, etc.I studied this course over 20 years ago and I still find it relevant to my work today.
The text and images are not printed well. The ink is light gray and it is very difficult to read the text. The content is amazing though.
This book spells out (using math and English) what I had learned the hard way over years of hardware design and takes the black magic out of why high speed systems work the way they do. My favorite practice was to go running for this book as a second opinion whenever someone didn't grasp what I was saying about intricate signal or grounding related issues. I was just a student when I got the book. At first I was skeptical of the notion of treating the explanation of the topics discussed as "Black Magic," but as I learned more about High Speed Digital Design, I started to embrace it.

Even after ~20 years the material is still applicable. Text is well presented and covers concepts well. Reasonable "short cuts" are explained and sufficient math/equations are shown to support them.

I trully loved reading this book. It is organized in a manner that makes sense and flows. The associated reference material at the back of the book is usefull and well covered. The authors cover topics that are to the point and application specific. A FANTASTIC job for a technical text.
